Need some guidance on how to get started with your new Autumn block-of-the-month? Does the designer use some stitches that are new to you? The class will include information on using both freezer paper and fusible appliqué methods. We’ll also talk about needles and threads.

Most of the class time will be used for demonstrating various stitches, including the whip stitch, blanket stitch, herringbone stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, couch stitch and drizzle stitch. The class fee includes a small kit with flannel, wool and threads so participants can practice the stitches during class. You may learn some stitches that become new favorites. If time permits, participants may begin or continue to work on their first month’s blocks.

This is a 5 month BOM that features 5 of the bird blocks in the new book 100 Whimsical Appliqué Designs by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins.  It will have a checkerboard border between the blocks and to frame the table runner.

5 months - $6.00 per month

The book is a separate purchase

Needle Turn Applique - Back Basting Method

Needle turn appliqué doesn't have to be scary! Nor does it have to take hours and hours of prep time before you begin to stitch! We will be learning the Back-basting Appliqué method. By tracing your design to the wrong side of the background fabric there is no problem with marking lines on the front that don't quite get covered. We will discuss needles and the different types of threads and I will have some available for you to try.

This class includes demonstrations on the basics of using a Stripology ruler, such as cutting strips, cutting squares and rectangles from strips, squaring up quilt blocks, and cutting odd-sized measurements (1/4”, 1/8”, etc). Instructors will be available to help class participants as they cut out their own quilt project using their Stripology ruler. This class could change the way you look at cutting out quilt projects!
